Lift Up
A five-film culture series for SPOC, edited for Six Foot Five
The problem
SPOC is a serious industrial company. Their technology runs inside mission-critical power systems for most of the largest energy companies in the country. But the story they wanted to tell wasn't about technology. It was about people, the idea that their greatest innovation is the team behind the machines.
That's a hard thing to prove on camera. Say it wrong and "our people are our greatest asset" sounds like every corporate values page ever written. The raw material was hours of interviews with employees and C-suite leaders across five themes. The job was to turn all of it into five short films that actually feel true.
What we did
Six Foot Five brought me in as the editor. Working with their Director, I took the raw interviews and found the through-line for each of the five Lift Up pillars, deciding which moments carried the point and which needed to get out of the way.
Editing a values film comes down to restraint. Anyone can string together people saying nice things about their employer. The real work is finding the handful of honest, specific moments that make a viewer actually believe it, building each film around those, and folding in the graphics and client feedback without letting any of it get in the way of the story. We moved through drafts until each film said what SPOC meant, not just what sounded good.
The result
Five films that anchor SPOC's culture and careers page, each built around a real employee and a real belief. The series gave SPOC a way to show the one thing that's hardest to show: what it actually feels like to work there.
"He doesn't let his ego get in the way of what the client wants. He cares about the work and the experience, a rare asset. If you want someone who does great work and is a joy to work alongside, Mark is your guy."
— Audra Whaley, Head of Production, Six Foot Five
